Gunmen kill vigilante in Anambra

Tension mounted, yesterday, at Okpoko Layout, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, near Onitsha, when an operative of Okpoko vigilance group, simply identified as Stubborn, was gunned down by a gang of armed men, suspected to be robbers, who operated in motorbikes at Mugambo Market.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen chased the deceased in motorbikes from ElephantBuilding, where the vigilance group office is located, to his security post.
Sources said he ran into a compound and the gunmen followed him in and emptied a magazine into Stubborn’s head and chest.
The sources said it took the combined effort of men of the Okpoko sector of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, led by DSP Anthony Ogah and the Okpoko vigilance group, based on information provided by members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, to unravel the incident.
The sources hinted that one person, suspected to be among the robbers that shot the vigilance operative, has been arrested and handed over to SARS at its state headquarters in Awkuzu.
They added that the suspect was helping police with necessary information that could lead to the arrest of others.
