Three men – Olamilekan Shokunbi, Shakiru Oloyede and Jacob Sunday- are being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, over the death of two of their neighbours.
The victims,
identified simply as Malik and Wale, were said to have been shot and
later cut with machete on August 5, 2013 in Bariga, Lagos State.
Two persons, Micheal and Samuel, were said to have survived the attack which was allegedly perpetrated by suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity that the four boys were at the time, squatting in a room owned by Oloyede at Ebunoluwa Street.
The source said, “The boys already knew they would be attacked that night but after waiting outside till 12 midnight, they gave up the watch and went to sleep. A few minutes after 3am, we were all awakened by gunshots.
“The cult boys stormed Oloyede’s room, attacked Malik and Wale with matchetes and then shot them. Although Micheal and Samuel were also shot, they survived the attack. It was only Oloyede who escaped unhurt, although he claimed to be sleeping on the floor beside Wale.”
When the shooting started, Shokunbi, a bricklayer who also lives in the same compound as Oloyede, was said to have immediately scampered for safety with his family behind the building. Sunday, another neighbour, was also said to have joined Shokunbi.
Both men were said to have emerged when they heard Oloyede shouting for help. After moving the dead and injured to a private hospital at Sungas where they were rejected, the men were said to have called the Pedro and Bariga police divisions for help.
After being invited to the Bariga Division to give their statements, Shokunbi and Oloyede were said to have been detained and later transferred to the SCID.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, could not be reached as her telephone rang out, while text messages were not replied.
